Final Fantasy X-3 is not in development, says Square Enix By Erren Van Duine on April 8, 2014 at 1:01 PM

Final Fantasy X-3 isn’t in the cards any time soon, says Yoshinori Kitase – Final Fantasy series producer in an interview with Famitsu this week. According to him the 2.5 novel and -Will- audio drama were not created with the intention of creating a third FFX title.

The magazine reached out to collect several blanket statements from prominent developers on upcoming titles on the topic of rumors that have recently flooded the Internet, including others from Square Enix. Aside from Kitase, Dissidia Final Fantasy director Mitsunori Takahashi expressed great interest in creating another entry in the series. According to Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series producer Shinji Hashimoto, development on Final Fantasy XV is going well, and new scene editing on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX has concluded so fans should expect information on the latter soon enough. The game is expected later this year.

  • Forget X-3, what about a Dissidia 3/ 011 on Vita? It’ll be a system seller like Persona 4 Golden!

  • Shami

Or how about an HD release of PSP Square-Enix titles mainly Dissidia 012, Crisis Core,
    3rd Birthday.
I was about to mention Birth by Sleep but that is already in the making.

One can dream now can he?

If they weren’t created with the intent of making a X-3, what WAS the point? I can assure you, had not BOTH the drama and novel been received so poorly, we’d be hearing about a X-3 ( and honestly, I still think it’s coming, maybe not in development now, but it IS coming)…

Square Enix ad Sony panel ad E3.
    Let’s all take a look ad FFX-3

Pretty sure that won’t happen because SE said that they will not make any “Dissidia-like” games in the future. It’s a shame, really.

  • I remember Nomura saying that, and another member of SE saying the opposite a couple months back…

  • Wazi the pa

Its expected that they’re not in development, It’s way too early! However, considering how they made an audio drama sequel, that damn tells us they are interested and probably thinking of making plans to make X-3.
For now, Square has got to focus on what we the fans and hardcore gamers of Square Enix needs:
Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III/2.5 HD ReMix and maybe a Final Fantasy VII Remake?
But a Final Fantasy VII remake (PS4) with Crisis Core’s story implemented like the PSP game of it…… With Zack Fair playable….. Not a movie please.

  • Krijn van Alten

And what happened with type 0? I hope they gonna announce a Vita release this E3. You can always hope right?

  • Krijn van Alten

Maybe they have learned form LR that a sequel after sequel is not such a good idea. I rather have them working on a compilation of XV as Nomura already mentioned once than producing a X-3.

  • Wazi the pa

If they do announce the western release of type-0 on this year’s E3…. I would be mind blown. …
Only two months……. and my head hurts thinking bout it……

  • Wazi the pa

I say put Crisis Core to the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Makes the overall package more awesome.

  • Hasuki

    I heard the same thing.

  • Nokuto

(Hey, I meant to delete that comment! Why is it still here?)

If what the member told before is you true, they probably realized what a great hit Dissidia was, and decided to want to make a new one, despite saying they had no interest.

It’s kinda like how Nomura said that he wouldn’t release the KH Final Mixes overseas, and if he would he would use a “trump card,” and now we have the HD Remixes. This is according to KH Wiki, I’m not exactly sure how accurate the information is over there.

edit: I have a link to KH Wiki where he says that.

  • Oh, I know all about that Final Mix fiasco, I used to binge read everything on KHWiki. This is exactly why I’m hoping Nomura renegs again. Dissidia is a hit mini series.

Pfft, Final Mix in Japan only… it was only a matter of time.

The weird thing is some people actually want it, at now of all times. Why? We just got Lightning, ARR and the X/X-2 remakes out of the way. Can’t we just get the game we’ve been waiting for? For 8 years?

  • EX+

I think it’s time to let Type-0 go.

  • Krijn van Alten

Its not the first game that came late to the west. Think about Xenoblade chronicles. 2010 it was released in JP and it was said that there where no plans for further localisation. Than there came protest form the fans and a petition. And two years later it came to the US/EU market. So I still have some hope left.

  • MasterJ360

Some of you people need to just forget about a VII remake. Its not happening unless the fans stop being so picky. Not saying a remake is a bad idea, but it would take years of developement and alot of money

  • Sophia

If they didn’t want to do a X-3 in the first place, WHY DID YOU DID THE NOVELLA AND THE AUDIO DRAMA!?
It was fine like that, without that additions.
When the audio drama was first announced, i thought it was a nice extra, the audio drama telling us how happy everyone live, as a big happy family, but heck I was wrong!

  • Samsara09

maybe they will release Xv before X-3,either way,SE has many teams. One project doesn’t mean another can’t be simultaneously done.

  • Samsara09

indeed,it is way too fish. Also, people accuse SE of ignoring the fanbase when they made XIII a trilogy.Well, why now would SE suddenly yield to the fans like that? That doesn’t make sense.

  • EX+

That’s true. But Xenoblade came because of Operation Rainfall. That petition for Type-0 has like 12000 signatures but SE aren’t budging.

  • EX+

That’s true, but did you know that Nomura’s team was temporarily pulled off of Versus to make FF14 2.0?

  • Krijn van Alten

And after the latest news on XV here (about the posibility for more waiting for some XV info) i thought: maybe that is because they have something else this E3, like Type-0!

  • EX+

I don’t think SE would show off a portable spinoff at E3 that’s already been released as opposed to an 8 year old mainline title.

  • Krijn van Alten

We only know for sure after the E3 is finished.

  • Sophia

I wonder if they’re gonna do a new dissidia, i want a new dissidia!

  • Will

The audio drama left us on a cliff-hanger and it would be nice for that story to be playable as multiple protaganist either Tidus (Once again) or Chuami which focuses on a love story similer to Yuna’s and Tidus’s but if the story lines are different depending on which character you would choose,I think another FFX would be most profitable.
