Final Fantasy XIII & XIII-2 added to PlayStation Now beta By Spencer Pressly on June 21, 2014 at 3:53 AM

PlayStation Now has been in a private beta on PlayStation 3 since January and just recently began on PlayStation 4. The latest update to the PS Now beta not only added a whole new slew of games, but also gives us a preview of how the pricing will work. Two of the newest games in the beta games rotation are Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2.

PlayStation Now is a service that will let you stream a game straight to your PS3, PS4, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV, and Sony Bravia TV’s. Since the games are being streamed there is no need to download the game and this allows you to hop right into the game as long as you have a somewhat decent internet connection. Prices are going to vary depending on the game as well as when it was released. Sony has also talked about having a subscription plan closer to the full launch of the service. 1545069_869094549771878_2649577431466702768_n As of now if you were looking to rent a game your options are four hours, seven days, 30 days, or 90 days. If you own a game digitally it will be free to stream right away on your PS3. If you are looking for these game on your PS4 they will not appear as free until you set up your rental on PS3 first. Since this is a beta hopefully this will change soon. Let us know what you think of being able to play Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 on your PS4 with PlayStation Now in the comments below.

How is the DLC going to work for XIII-2 in this release?

  • waku waku

I would rather buy the game than rent it. It’s basically not possible unless I have a PS3 then? :/

  • Andrés González

What!? Those prices are FUCKING expensive for a rent, Final Fantasy XII-2 is like 20 dollars on retail and you can have like forever. WOW, they are serious about this crap?.

  • Wazi the pa

5 Dollars for 4 hours? I’d rather buy the game

  • Alexis Crockett

That’s an… interesting concept. I rather like to buy physical copies of a game because I like the feeling of holding something in my hand and not having it snatched after a few hours. Plus why pay 30$ for 90 days when you can pay that price (or even less if used) to keep it forever?

The advantage I do see to this, however, might be if you can play original PS3 titles on a Vita. But still, you’d have to give it up after the time is over.

  • stevenm281

its written that this version includes all DLC

  • Jackel

To be fair the prices are moving up and down right now and Sony has stated (and states on the pricing pages) that they’re more or less placeholders for the time being.

I agree that it’s crap beta testers have to pay to use the service but I’m confident the pricing model will work itself out into something reasonable.

  • karasuKumo

To be honest you could easily beat each of them in the 7 day time period. I still don’t see the point in renting though.

  • Omg the pricing is really not good for now.

I’m gonna get XIII-2 and see how it works with the streaming. Only because it’s included with all the DLC. but $29.99 for 90 days right now >_< i thought it would be $14.99 like XIII. I'm Also gonna see. Also, I logged into my PS3 to see if I can download PSNow on there. It shows up In my services list but I cant download it /_/ Is the purchase through PS3 feature coming later?

  • Alessandro

Why they don’t put the whole game! I mean, without that time range? Like, I want to pay for the game to be with me as long as I want, play anytime I want, not the “time is money” lol. Before that, the only games of the Lightning trilogy that were in the Playstation Store was the FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns, and why not the XIII? C

  • Alessandro

Maybe. Are you a Playstation Plus subscriber? Perhaps the Beta is available to Plus. ^ ^

  • Alessandro

    Yeah, Also hated it!

  • Alexis Crockett

not me lol it took me months to beat FF XIII (I was playing it off and on, but still)

  • Oo let me check again! I took some pics too ^_^

They are on my FB. You cant upload or use any social media features at the moment either 🙁

But i hope they add it later.

  • Wazi the pa

Imagine playing Lightning Returns using Playstation Now…… That will be hell.

  • nororu

30 dolars for 90 days…guys we need to accept that this is expensive…with 30 dollars more you have the game 2 years …3 4 wait all your life !!. they should sell the complete game for 30-45 dollars because they did not work to bring the game to this plataform, you know what i mean guys. sorry for my bad english

  • OathkeeperSoraXIII

I was about to say I’m on board for this but damn not for those prices…I’d rather just set my old ps3 up to play them again. Is renting the only thing we can do on Playstation Now? or will we be able to actually buy the game? Also if anyone has PS Now is there much of a time delay from button inputs to what happens on screen? ty in advance

  • stevenm281

Playstation Now is for renting games, while the Playstation Store is for buying games.

  • OathkeeperSoraXIII

    Okay, thanks

  • stevenm281

Well, the way I look at it, most prices are overly expensive but the 7 days option is cheaper than renting a game in a video store.

  • stevenm281

Where I live, renting a game for 3 days is 15$

  • Martian Wong

How do I put it, most people that wants to play it should already have it/play it. Why would people want to pay 30 dollars just to rent a game for 90 days? I can get it cheaper than 30 dollars on Amazon.

  • Octavio Valdez

Might not be the place to put this but has anybody looked at this site? Seems that the E3 2013 trailer of FF15 was merely a TECH DEMO, as stated by this middleware website used in the trailer for light effects. http://www.siliconstudio.co.jp/middleware/yebis/en/showcase/gamelist/

  • ok so I gave 13 2 a try. After playing, I told sony the overall experience was a 5 out of 5. the graphics were a 4 and audio was 2 since 5.1 was not supported and upon entering the coliseum and watching an amazing cutscene seemed to diminish the audio quality for the rest of my session.

food for thought! many of thd streaming video distortion can be fixed! use your tv to max out any DNR setting. also decrease your sharpness a bit and try to use your tvs gast media setting. Although not perfect, these settings made me question the quality as I had to now look for any distortion on the screen. Some times takung minutes just to find s y digital noise. after all those changes I dud the survey again and everything was a 5 for me (except for the audio). Also, sony highly suggests using an ethernet connection

  • stealth20k

PSNow is not going to be a good service

  • Depends on how you look at it. The beta, is not good. Paying for titles previously purchased for a rental is lame beyond compare. With pricing adjustments, and the subscription plan involved, My personal issues would be resolved. Some games are fairly cheaper while others are free. The current selection keeps growing day by day. and the pricing has changed a bit from the initial beta which leads me to believe the price points have not been finalized.

  • Jesus H Gip! thats expensive! I use to rent videogames from warehouse for about $3 for 2 days… Inflation is not so great when my paycheck does not inflate with the growing econonmy…

  • Responsiveness for me is 100% accurate. there is no delay in button pressing with any game ive tried so far.

Be sure to use an ethernet cable for optimal connection 🙂

  • Why?

  • If they let me subscribe, I will find a way to play LR in public!

  • mozzafar

I want the release of Final Fantasy xiii on the PlayStation Store if allowed this would be easier for me to get them immediately with and easier for people to thank, and I hope to hear a positive response

  • Sora96

That explains the price then. That’s like $30 worth of DLC.

  • Sora96

    Add the DLC into it.

  • Clinton Williams

I have a ps vita and I own final fantasy 13
oh and I think it will be a great idea if I can play on
My vita but if you own the game already you should just be able to download it to the vita
but if you don’t own the video games and I think it’s a great idea for rental

  • Jeremy Barnes

13 doesn’t seem to be available in the PS store – adding the option to NOW to “buy” the game or at least pay a set amount so you can stream it anytime without having to keep renting it would be nice. It streams very well for me, over wireless there were some issues but with an Ethernet cable plugged in directly it is great. I still get occasional lag but I think it must be on their server side because everything else I have is running great and when I test my connection it shows amazing numbers. That is the only issue I have with it.

  • Jeremy Barnes

Definitely not worth it for the shorting time rentals. I was home sick this week and I saw 13 was available though and I was excited to have this to occupy my time while I laid in bed.

  • Jeremy Barnes

It’s already a great service if you ask me. Like anything it needs some tweaks and prices will need some adjusting but why so negative? Anything in particular or just trolling?

  • Jeremy Barnes

Does anyone know if this the ENG version or the JAP version? In terms of content I mean…not language. Specifically I was wondering because the JAP version allowed pre-emptives against Ochus which the ENG version did not.

  • Stoprentinggamesplan

I think it’s crap. Will every game soon by available by renting? I want to pay the onetime fee and play it, not every single month. I hope this does not become a trend. I just want to play the game, but don’t want to bother with a subscription plan.

  • stevenm281

    then buy the fucking game..
