No multiplayer for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

Final Fantasy Type-0 will shed its multiplayer components in the transition to HD, Director Hajime Tabata confirmed last week to GameSpot. The original PSP version was designed around multiplayer, handled originally in three minute bursts with up to four players in a traditional instance connected through ad-hoc services.

According to Tabata, this option was essentially removed due to development time. “Originally, for the handheld device, when we introduced the multiplayer aspect, it was so that people could get together in the same environment and play together,” said Tabata. “But for the console, we thought it would impede on completing the game, so it’s not included in the game.”

This isn’t the first time Square Enix has revised multiplayer functionality in one of its HD remasters. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep has also seen the removal of online play in its Mirage Arena, although players can still get a handle on it on in solo play through a challenge system where one can accrue bonuses.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is set to arrive in the West some time next year. A proper release date has yet to be announced.
