Final Fantasy VII comes to the PS4 next year, is a port of the PC version By Erren Van Duine on December 6, 2014 at 3:20 PM

Final Fantasy VII is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 next year, Square Enix has revealed today. Taking the stage at Sony’s PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas, Final Fantasy series boss took the stage to tease the 17-year storied history of the game before revealing the title would be making its way to the new generation.

Little is known about the release so far, although it will be based on the PC version and enjoy upscaled visuals. Presumably, fans will also be able to collect trophies and make use of other PS4-centric features as well. We expect to hear more from Square Enix as we near its Spring 2015 launch date.

I’ve never gotten so happy and so disappointed so fast in my life

  • You have no idea how mad I’m about it! Serioulsy Square Enix? THIS IS TROLLING HARD all the fanbase that have been supporting you for all these years! Geez, I can’t believe they did that!

  • Crysus Bu

Greatest TROLL ever, damn I was expecting great things 🙁

  • Krijn van Alten

And there is Final Fantasy VII…again. I can´t wait for end of 2017 is over, the moment that the compilation of VII is finally over.

  • Alexis Crockett

that was a dirty move, square, lol

  • Krijn van Alten

I don´t see what´s the ‘lol’ behind this.

  • Alexis Crockett

    because everyone is crying
    tears are delicious

  • Christian Kase

I am sure that 99% of the people jump to the conclution that it would be a HDremake before the announcement even started, to for them, stop jumping to conclutions before the announcement even begin !

  • Krijn van Alten

    I’m not crying, I’m a man.

  • Krijn van Alten

How can you make conclusions before announcements begin? I think you mean: in the beginning of the announcement.

  • stevenm281

They can go to hell with this version, for the first time I’m boycotting.

  • Alexis Crockett

    *laughs into the sunset*

  • Ouch. I thought that they would start by showing the original game, then cut to an updated/remastered PS4 version.

  • Krijn van Alten

You are not the only one I think. I still hope that they will unveil the fact that it’s actually a remaster and will be released somewhere in 2016.

  • Krijn van Alten

    You are strange.

  • Noctis Caelum

great…i bought it a month ago on the ps3 and played it trough…what else should i say?

  • So I did

  • SQEX is so trolling these days that she might announce the XIII trilogy in fullHD in the PS4, at the Jump Festa

  • Krijn van Alten

Delete this post! They might read it and think that is a good idea!

  • Sathil

come on, show 12 some love

  • I recently got a PS4 and that thought has been on my mind. I hope they make it happen someday. I love those games.

  • Not sure how I feel about this. If they added voice acting from the cast of advent children I’d be all on board. But just improved graphics? That’s not saying much since the game was on PS1 and now you’re popping it on PS4. Even PS4 can’t make up for how dated it looks. Great game as it is I have it on PSN for my PS3 already anyway. So why get it on PS4? I don’t understand why they’d do this. Will there be trophies? Why not just forget about FF7 until they’re ready to remake it. Stop playing around with remixes and make money with new products. Everytime they do something like this all they’re doing is add more fuel to the people saying Square is washed up and just milks old titles or does half-ass sequels that are shorter and less deep than their originals.

  • Are you saying you enjoy the suffering of others?

  • Xervath

This is essentially a port of a port. While I love this particular title, I fail to see how this is a good move. I don’t think this will sell well at all…wasted resources, if you will.

I say: Finish XV and after that dedicated resources to a remake of VII, if you feel so inclined…but giving the fans this will raise only eyebrows…not hype, methinks.

  • LukesAlike

This does seem a bit strange on Square’s part; at the same time, I’m not calling for blood like a bunch of other people.

  • My reaction: “OK, where’s the new footage. Where’s the new footage? Where’s the n— oh god, this is it, isn’t it?”

  • Sigurd Simensen

the trailer seemed a bit strange though. kind of superficial if you ask me. perhaps they could have something else in store for us?

  • Iceygames

Just wait to Jump Festa, I’m sure this will be just a marketing ploy to mess with the fans….but that’s just wishful thinking, still, let’s see.

  • Iceygames

Well atleast they would listen to that, anything that has to do with XIII they’re all for it.
Hell, if people begged for a retro remake of the game then would take the time do that ASAP, putting everything else on hold cause no one messes with Lightning I guess

  • Randy Marsh

Tad bit lazy to put this on the PS4 with the “cleaned” graphics of the steam version, yay semi better load times and trophies….

Okay seriously if they want to do this “remaster” like this, power to them, but can we at least finally get updated spell names?! I’m sick and tired of the old numerical tier system for the ability names! I mean come on, its been like 15 years since the new spell tier system went into effect. Is it really that hard to go and just change the spell names to Blizzard, Fira, and Thundaga?! -_-

  • Seed

me too, what the hell are they thinking? Who wants this old version again and again? It was on Ps vita it was for the Ps one, than it was two times for the PC and now again the fucking same old version for PS4 who the fucking hell want this?

  • Seed

I think they need money, maybe to start the real remake…..but seriously they can go to hell with this version 😀

  • Mihel

I’d take a remake/upgrade/remaster of Crisis Core over FFVII any day.

  • Alexis Crockett

of course i do why is that a question

  • Because being a troll is wrong. So is being a sadist. But if that’s what you want to do then theres nothing else to say. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

  • Daniel Masterson

talk about the biggest disappointment of the year.

  • Lfo

    I would like that.

  • I absolutely love the XIII trilogy, but I think that SQEX should forget about it just a little. We got a lot of things about XIII these years. Now is time for something different. And changing the name of XV was the first step to dimp the XIII. The series’ got a lot of hate because of the games. But I’d really like to see Light in KH3. And I really hope for a XIII remake for the PS5 with everything ppl want, just for the haters stop hating and realise how good the story is.

  • I’m so glad the number of dislikes in this video is so huge! Hope Square Enix take notice on this and give the fans what they really have been asking for all those years!

  • Lim Seong

And do me a favor….. Please tells Square-Enix to “Fxxk them self and die with Final Fantasy Vii PS4 port…

  • FranBell

You can mod that in the PC version 😉

  • Randy Marsh

I know I can, if I didn’t waste 3 months of my life getting all the achievements in the steam version, I would so mod that heck out of that version and change the spell names!

  • Seed

    same here

  • Seed

    Check this reaction hahahahaha

  • stevenm281

If only they would based this PS4 version from the PC version with MODS! I mean, they don’t have to create the assets themselves, they’re available for everyone on Internet, they could make the best version possible with the available mods and then port it to PS4, can’t be that hard if some mere fans can do it.

  • Furious Longterm Wow

dear god, don’t re-release this; especially since most of the peopel already paid for it for ps3/psp.Stop while your ahead. THis is the 5th time you have re-released this game – remake the damn thing!
