Yoko Shimomura interviewed at Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV By Erren Van Duine on August 4, 2016 at 12:24 PM

Square Enix has gone live with a new video today focusing on Final Fantasy XV composer Yoko Shimomura. In the video, Shimomura shares her thoughts on Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV as well as the differences between composing for a game and composing for a movie.

While Shimomura is handling the bulk of the Final Fantasy XV game, she’s only providing the main theme for Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.

  • She’s great but I want her to do more rock and jazz songs.

I wonder if she means there are many songs left for her to write for XV or just in her career in general? Either way still looking forward to more of her music. Also Lena’s so lucky she got to stand next to Yoko on stage.

she was speaking about FF15, I cannot believe that after ten years, the soundtrack isnt done yet.

I’m so excited to hear the full soundtrack! She is a beautiful composer, and I believe having her composing for a main Final Fantasy game will add some uniqueness to XV.

Now it’s just the waiting game ’cause I’m going to preorder that soundtrack at the first moment I get! Hopefully there will be a cool collector’s edition of it too!

Yeah, I really love her work on the original Parasite Eve game. I think she does a great job when implementing rock elements into her songs.

  • But she doesn’t do that much anymore. The night time battle in XV is the only rock track I’ve heard for the game. Before that it was Hazardous Highway in KH2. But those are few.

Keep in mind that production for FFXV didn’t really start ramping up until 2013. Until then, the only themes we know that she wrote were Somnus and Omnis Lacrima. Not to mention that each new story element or location they add to the game may call for additional tracks to be written. It’s pretty common for composers to have to work on their pieces up until the last minute, as games and films are usually being edited up until then.

I think that it’s plausible to not have write the full set of musics for the game by that time. XV started on 2013 and as she said there are theme songs for places and moments and it needs to be done at least in concept to prepare the music creation. I have no doubt it is complete by now.

I wonder how many tracks there will be, and what about the tracks for the anime? Isn’t she the composer for that one as well?
