IGN premieres new Final Fantasy XV footage, answers fan questions

Did you know Final Fantasy XV was influenced by Lord of the Rings? It’s true, according to director Hajime Tabata who spoke at length on the game during a special IGN-hosted launch party in London. That along with the real life experiences of the development team worked together to shape what we see today.

First up, Tabata recapped the game’s scheduled day one patch – or “Crown Update” if you will. Along with some inserted scenes from Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, you’ll have the option to listen to your car’s set of radio music while wandering around the world on foot.

Because the team loves the world they created so much, they really want to add new areas and new content following launch to make the experience even bigger. One example out in the world comes from fishing – if you fish in the rain the types of fish you can catch will actually change.

Another question focused on the appearances of Noctis and Luna. Tabata says it was art director Yusuke Naora who came up with the idea for the two to wear contrasting outfits as a sort of homage to the traditional Final Fantasy concept of light and dark.

Fans were also treated to a look at new footage from the game – featuring a battle against XV‘s own Midgardsormr and another clip focusing on Leviathan. There’s mild spoilers here, especially in the Leviathan scene, so as always we stress you watch at your own risk.

Final Fantasy XV is due out on November 29 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
