Final Fantasy XIV details Dun Scaith, new PvP gear, mounts and more By Erren Van Duine on January 5, 2017 at 3:33 AM

Square Enix has released a new round of screenshots and information detailing some of the content fans can look forward to in Final Fantasy XIV‘s Patch 3.5, the game’s next major content update due out January 17.

“The Far Edge of Fate” as it’s called, is set to bring a number of new additions including a new 24-man alliance raid closing out the Mhach series, new PvP (player versus player) gear and mount rewards, new subquests involving Hildibrand and Saint Endalim’s Scholasticate and much more. Patch 3.5’s second part, which will conclude the Heavensward main scenario, is currently scheduled to launch in March.

Dun Scaith

The ancient tome recovered by Captain Radliaof the Talons tells of a floating refuge ─ an island created by Mhachi sorcerers to provide safe haven from calamitous floodwaters. With the disaster that befell the Void Ark, however, the island’s intended residents never arrived. Cait Sith is convinced that Diabolos has instead claimed this refuge as his own, transforming what was to be a bastion of hope into a voidsent nest of shadowy nightmare. And it is into this fiendish lair that you must delve.

Saint Endalim’s Scholasticate

With every mystery solved it seems another, greater than the last, springs up to take its place. Tensions are running at an all-time high at the scholasticate, as rage and desperation take hold of the student body who are altogether too eager to pin the blame for their misfortune on one unlucky individual, who some might say is just getting what he deserves. While some fight to defend the innocent, others move to take justice into their own hands, and once again you and Inspector Briardien find yourselves in a race against time to uncover the true culprit responsible for the chaos that ensues.

Further Hildibrand Adventures

Inspector’s Log: The future of House Manderville is in peril! Gigi, apple of my eye, beloved son, has run away with the Grand Sers, those elderly scoundrels! Glad though I was to see him regain his lost memories, his sudden revelations led him to pursue a most dangerous path. Overcome with grief for his deceased creator, he now seeks to harness his phenomenal powers that he might return the dead to life! Yet I know full well he will not find solace in the dark arts, and so it falls to me, Zombibrand, devourer of brains, undead overlord extraordinare ─ Ahem! Former undead overlord, to return my dear boy to the straight and narrow!

New Minions

Ever dreamt of adventuring with a pint-sized Estinien at your side? Mayhap a droopy-eyed bullpup is more to your liking? Well, the time for dreaming is over, as both of these minions and more will be added to the game in patch 3.5!

New Mounts

Prepare yourself for some new awe-inspiring mounts — a majestic throne which soars through the skies, and the Demonic lanner with its flaming wings of gold are but two of the numerous new ways you will be able to traverse the realm. What’s more, players that manage to collect the entire lanner series will be able to get their hands on an exclusive Firebird mount! Flying never felt so good.

New Hairstyles & Emotes

New emotes have come to Eorzea! Look forward to partying with friends using the Moonlift Dance and showing off your superior intelligence with the Spectacles emote.

Housing Update: Aquariums & Paintings

If you give an Eorzean a fish, they will not eat today, but will choose to instead fill their lonely aquarium. The good news for fish fans is that plenty of new fishes will be made available in the upcoming update.

Paintings are here to save the day by brightening up housing across the realm.

New PvP Gear & Mounts

New PvP gear inspired by the hit Japanese TV show: Garo! Designed by legendary character designer Keita Amemiya, these new mounts and gear are sure to bring a smile to the face of any Garo fan.

  • So glad Garo outfits aren’t time-limited. Plus it blew almost every PvP out of the water. And THAT FIREBIRD. OMG.

  • FreakinRican

They are actually: “The period in which you can do it will be longer than the Yokai Watch collaboration”. People speculate it will end when Stormblood drops.

  • That’s unfortunate. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it before that happens.

  • Jonathan Mories Villaverde

    He will drop Bahamut!

  • Lee

Ugh, getting all those birb mounts to get the ultimate birb is going to be one hell of a grind. Yay.

  • Randy Marsh

Well considering we’re at 3.5 the drop rates will be lowered for all the birds bar Zurvan at the 3.5 patch launch and they all will be eventually lowered down once again at 3.55/3.57. So the grind will not be that terrible as it is currently.

  • Lee

Oh yeah. Very true. Unfortunately, RNG just never liked me very much. Took me a long time to get the ponies and despite increased drop rates in Rav/Bis, I still had to get close to 99 totems before I finally got them both.

  • Brad Montague

Actually, I doubt that happens until closer to 4.0. At most, we may see the 99 tokens be introduced for Sephirot and Nidhogg, though I could see them holding off until 3.55. They aren’t going to increase drop rates for a while other since they’ll want us to have a reason to stay subbed.

  • Justice V

Garo outfits are awesome. But I haven’t played 14 since 2014 I think dunno if I wanna jump back in just for those, not to mention having to get heavensward too. Does look like a lot of the new content is fun though. Just hate the monthly payments.

  • Randy Marsh

They did the nerfs in 2.4 launch with the horses. Also they have already increased the drop rates of Ravana, Bismarck, and Thordan. Sephirot, Sophia, and Nidhogg should be next for now along with the 99 totems possibly in 3.55. Around 3.55-.57, Zurvan along with the rest should get another minor up amount in drop rates like they did for the ending of the 2.X series the month before the expansion comes out.

Upping the drop rates doesn’t automatically mean 100% drops fyi, the primal horses didn’t get the extreme high drop rates they have now until around 3.02 iirc. So having the current primal drop rates increased won’t kill sub counts, a tad bit overreacting there.

  • Ralph Mueller

I much prefer a monthly payment versus a pay to win cash grab scam.

  • NightmareCandle

If you want to play a good MMO, you pay monthly. That’s how it goes. Those of us who can afford it are happy to receive content every 3.5 months and not have a pay to win cash shop.

  • Justice V

Yeah. Problem is I don’t like MMO’s. Definitely worth paying for, but considering I don’t like MMO’s in the first place it’s a deterrent. Other deterrent is every time I sign back up and pay monthly I’ll play for a week or so and then keep wanting to go back but never do and end up paying 4-5 months worth of service without playing heh. All my own fault, but still. Granted if it was F2P I’d probably have no interest in it because it wouldn’t be nearly as good.

  • Justice V

Yeah not a fan of F2P games either.

  • Scott Jeslis

Justice, I recently re-subbed. So much to-do. e.g. The Gold Saucer mini-games they added are incredible, as are the rewards from those!

  • Brad Montague

They aren’t going to increase Sophia’s drop rate only one patch cycle following her release. Her and Zurvan will likely be held off until near 4.0’s launch– whenever they do a minor patch update following 3.55. Sephirot and Nidhogg are possible, but keep in mind they waited over a year before doing that with Thordan. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they wait.

I also never said it did nor that it would kill sub counts. Just the entire purpose behind the mounts is to keep people active, both in the game and in that content. Zurvan wouldn’t even be two months old come 3.55. They won’t nerf his mount drop that fast since it’ll discourage people from continuously queuing.

  • Randy Marsh

All I can say from all this is, you obviously weren’t around during the time of the 2.5x patch or you didn’t have interest in this stuff at the time. At the start of the ending patch before the expansion they do increase drop rates of items and they will eventually increase drop rates, tome caps, make the upgrading items easier to obtain, remove weekly restrictions in raids, and apply the nerfs raids during the follow months before the expansion to keep people playing and give them something to farm.

  • Brad Montague

That… isn’t what I said. I know they will nerf everything eventually. I just doubt its Sophia this early.

  • FreakinRican

Patch notes are out and they don’t indicate any end date. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/d90ea3ee6d083eaba4f22e5deefe934b0a0a464e The feels are good.
