Square Enix details Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood standard and Collector's Edition pre-orders

During a live broadcast today Final Fantasy XIV producer/director Naoki Yoshida and community manager Toshio Murouchi detailed what fans can expect when it comes down to purchasing the game’s latest expansion, Stormblood. Square Enix will begin pre-orders starting January 24 at 3PM EST in North America.

Those who pre-order will gain entry to the game’s early access period, starting tentatively at 5AM EDT on June 16. In order to enter new areas of the expansion you’ll need to have completed all the Heavensward quests beforehand. Unlocking the new Red Mage job, however, will be possible provided you have at least one class at level 50. The quest to unlock Red Mage will be located in one of the areas featured in A Realm Reborn.

Here’s a rundown of Stormblood‘s various pricing:

    PC:

  • Collector’s Edition – $199
  • Collector’s Edition (Digital) – $59.99
  • Standard Edition – $39.99
  • PlayStation 4:

  • Collector’s Edition – $199
  • Collector’s Edition (Digital) – $59.99
  • Standard Edition – $39.99
  • Mac:

  • Collector’s Edition (Digital) – $59.99
  • Standard Edition – $39.99

Note the Mac version will only be offered in digital formats. If you want a physical copy you’ll have to go with either PC or PS4.

Also during the broadcast, Yoshida revealed the new illustration that will grace the cover for the standard editions of Stormblood in the West. While the Japanese version will feature traditional Yoshitaka Amano artwork, the Western version features a render of the game’s new antagonist Zenos yae Galvus.

For players who have yet to join Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix is preparing a couple of options to help you jump in. Due out the same day as Stormblood, a “Complete Edition” will include A Realm Reborn, Heavensward and Stormblood in one package. Standard and digital Collector’s Editions are being prepared at $59.99 and $99.99 respectively. Standard physical versions will also be available on both PC and PS4.

Square Enix will also introduce a digital-only “Starter Edition.” This version of the game will only include A Realm Reborn and will make it clear this is the starting point for new players. The Starter Edition will be available for $19.99 on PC, PS4 and Mac.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood is due out on June 20.
