Square Enix has gone live with a snazzy trailer to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise. Viewers are treated with a slick compilation of gameplay footage and cutscenes from throughout the mainline series including Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy XV.

Take a blast from the past below:

  • I just want one games with all the heroes in an action RPG or classic RPG games working together to save a new world. Like Dissidia but as a full RPG and not just fighting only all the time. Not open world. Not a phone games.

I love the fact that the renders that represent most of the heroes are from Dissidia 2015 x’D

  • One Eco

    I would like that too!

  • Noneofyourbusiness

Funny how it says “2013” for FFXIV, ignoring the original 2010 launch.

  • Randy Marsh

Actually no you’re wrong, a majority of them are from the original Dissidia and Dissidia 012, not the Arcade version.

  • Syul

That would be SO cool Dx

The first render shown of WoL is DFFA’s version, the second is from 012; Firion’s first render is also from DFFA, the second from 012; Onion Knight is DFFA’s and the second is from 012; both renders of Cecil are from DFFA and Kain’s from 012; Bartz first render is from DFFA and the second is from 012, Exdeath’s render is also from 012; Terra’s first render is from 012, the second is from DFFA and Kefka’s from 012; Cloud’s first render is from Advent Children, the second’s from DFFA and Sephiroth’s is from 012…
And things continue like that until FFXIII… every main hero is using his/her render from the latest Dissidia; most of them and the villains use the renders from 012. BUT, there are four special cases: FFIX’s part of the video uses Zidane and Vivi’s original renders; FFXI and FFXIV’s part of the video use the renders from predefined MC’s and FFXV’s part of the video uses the official renders from FFXV since Noctis isn’t IN DFFA…

Well, FFXIV “came to life” after they got rid of the original disaster after all

  • Randy Marsh

Oh now I see, cursed mobile quality, it made the first renders nearly unnoticeable. Thanks for correcting that, so they did use both of the Dissidia renders them, neat.

I’m curious as to why Vivi was used though instead of Kuja or Garnet. FFXI and FFXIV are special cases obviously, however I cannot tell the first render used for the FFXIV, the one before Meteor wearing DRG AF2.

    ^This!!!

  • NoctLightCloud

I liked all the scenes shown besides XII and XV, those two were a bit random :’)
The music almost made me tear up :’)

  • Yeah. I mean why go the fighting game route when the only time we have them working together as a group is when we’re teased with it in KH2. Has there ever been a game where you could go 45hrs with Cloud, Squall, Zidane and Terra in a party together dropping giant villains? No. Not even in tactics games. There’s that one they’re gonna do for the phone, but it’ll likely just be that, a generic phone game. I’d pay top dollar for it if they’d just do it.

  • But for some reason they think no one wants that.

  • Syul

Who knows, maybe we’ll get to see something like that. I would certainly love to have Noctis meet Lightning, or see Kuja meeting Ardyn, for example.

I find funny, however, how Square-Enix aseverated that Dissidia is “not canon”. Well, if I’m not wrong, “canon” could be defined as what the original creators do, so… I’ll always think the Dissidia things really happened in between the games xD I don’t know if it’s foolish to think that, though, but I like to believe it~

  • That’s how I felt. In between games the FF heroes and villains were transported to a world locked between life and death. Like limbo.

  • Syul

    Exactly!

*sigh* I’m really looking forward for the PS4 Dissidia, to be honest. I know it’s still long way until it releases but I just imagine having Lightning and Kain along in the same team and I die of hype.

Getting a full RPG kind-of-Dissidia would be awesome, but well, while we pray for it, at least for the moment we have this. “It’s something”, as the meme would say xD
