We play through Final Fantasy XV’s Chapter 13 “Verse 2” By Tony Garsow on March 27, 2017 at 2:42 AM

As part of the March update to Final Fantasy XV, Square Enix has included a “Verse 2” to the game’s notorious Chapter 13. Following fan feedback regarding the story and gameplay featured in this section of the game, the team felt it necessary to release a free update that sheds more light on some events that transpire in the later parts of the game.

Here you’ll be taking control of Gladiolus with gameplay lifted from “Episode Gladiolus”, a DLC episode that’ll drop this Tuesday.

After you install the update, you’ll be able to play Chapter 13 Verse 2 from the “Special” section of the title menu.

We’ve played through it ourselves, and you can watch below. Be forewarned, the footage contains spoilers.

    Brace yourself, comrades.
    It’s happening!

  • Eyoi

Verse 2..? More like Versus 13 needs to happen!
These updates are a waste of time because Stella was removed!
Thanks Tabata from ruining mine and Nomura’s vision!
Never buying a Square game again.

Sign this petition please. It’s not too late to reverse this XV mess. https://www.change.org/p/square-enix-reboot-final-fantasy-versus

  • Eyoi

    Nice meme xD

  • Randy Marsh

    Alternative Facts,,,

Did…did the localization team make a Donald Trump administration joke? I mean I highly doubt it, but just so weird to here that in a FF game all of the sudden.

  • •december

Wasn’t one of the main ideas of FFXV immigration, they delved into it in Kingsglaive, but nothing since. Politics is definitely an underlying overtone. Luna and Noctis’ wedding was political, I’m not surprised, but rather interested!

  • •december

Any chance we get confirmation for, or against, Biggs and Wedge being neo-nazis? Lol

  • stevenm281

So, is this Verse 2 only included as a separate thing on the Special section, or is it also included in the main Chapter 13?

  • Invictus

I’ll be playing it. Giving it a chance since it’s a free update. How’s update so far boys?

  • Ryuke

That’s what I’m interested to know too. Is it ONLY accessible via the Special option of the main menu or is it also integrated into the game when playing the story naturally? I really hope it’s integrated, or else it’s not really “fixed” anything at all, just added an alternate scene that you have to come out of the game to experience. Nice still, but if any story changes they make are under a special menu and separate from the main game won’t they feel a bit fragmented and stick out to new players playing for the first time?

  • stevenm281

I couldn’t have said better myself!

  • Yuntu

you get a choice if you wanna play as Noctis or Gladio at that point

cant verify, but that´s what I heard

  • Yuntu

that petition is so disrespectful lmao

  • Wazi the pa

I think the additional content is fine for what it is, but it doesn’t make the chapter any more appealing to re-experience it as a whole despite the other miscellaneous changes packaged within the update.

Verse 2 acts as a bandage for a pinch of the game’s flaws and hats off to the devs for addressing them to the best of their abilities, but don’t get your hopes up if you think they’re gonna do something like that again in free future updates.

That being said, I still admire their determination for adding and fixing as many elements as they can to FFXV (as detailed in their roadmap of updates).

  • Ryuke

Thanks for the additional info. It’s tough, presenting it as a choice to the player means they will only see one side or the other, and I’d argue that some of the scenes with Ravus and Iedolas from the Gladio/Ignis part are critical to the perception of the story, just as much as the scenes that Noctis sees.

  • Yuntu

yeah, but atleast they thought about giving the option in the main menu

hope they maybe structure it a bit better for first timers, they still have enough months with patches to go

  • stevenm281

If we get to choose which part to play first, the other part should start once the first part is complete, so that we experience the whole thing.

  • Stonespear

This felt more like an advertisement for Episode Gladiolus than any kind of chapter 13 fix, imo.

  • stevenm281

So they only added one cutscene about Ravus and the Emperor, I guess its better than nothing, I hope they’ll add much more into other chapters…

  • Invictus

You’ve played through the verse 2?

  • stevenm281

    I watched it

  • Invictus

Literally one cutscene? hmmm well, hope that one scene gave justification behind the plot holes of 13

  • stevenm281

yes and no, like the game itself, its rushed.

See for yourself in the video, starting at 9min58.

  • Vallen

They better let you play both sides of ch. 13 naturally without exiting the game to the main menu…

  • Adrian

I think it was coincidental. I feel like I’ve heard the phrase “alternative facts” used in such a manner before that so I’m not sure it was an intentional jab at kellyanne conway…

…buuut it’s really not farfetched for a localization team to do that. Nintendo of America really loves cramming memes and pop culture references into their translations. There very well may be a trump joke in FFXV.

  • Shado Fang

NG+ is also an option, for those wanting to see the other side, but I agree. We should be getting both as one story.

  • Julianer

Hi. I have a problem. In title screen – part Downloadable – it’s say: this Content cannot be selected at this time. I don’t know why happen but I can’t play gladiolus episode because this.

  • xMysticx

the disrespectful is the one being you dear
look on how tidbits you all getting in ffxv .
while i go playing nier automata which it has full game with multi ending and bunch of side quest that matters to the story

not only that but i get to see each main character story each time i play
well have fun with your ” half assed game” opss sorry i mean ffxv
happy waiting for your patches to arrive

  • xMysticx

    make fun of it
make sarcasm at least it made by jap and jp amazon is filled with rants about ffxv your ” complete game ”

  • Eyoi

I’m completely aware of the games faults and I haven’t touched it since I finished it nor will I in the future. I just find the extent that people go to is hilarious. Versus is cancelled and it was abandoned a long time ago. In fact it never begun in the first place and we’re left with the remnants of conceptual trailers that even disappoint myself. I’m making fun of those people on the extreme end of the spectrum because it’s ridiculous. You didn’t like the game? Move on and ignore anything about it. There is no point endlessly harping on about a game that either doesn’t exist or the new version being an absolutely train-wreck.

I’m not sure why you’re assuming I think it’s a complete game. I have strong opinions against that matter in fact. It’s probably one of the most bare-bones, barely salvaged games I’ve played but I’m not going to defend a game that was never developed either even if I would’ve loved to play it. For all we know, Versus could’ve been an absolute train wreck as well.

  • Sato

I know it’s never gonna happen, but an alternate ending would be awesome. An ending that’s harder to get, but if the player complete certain tasks, Noctis and the bros survive in the ending.
I know everybody dies, in real life people die all the time, I lost my father wen I was a kid, he died right in front of me, last year one of my best friends killed himself.
Many people dislike this game, but for me this is one of my favorite Final Fantasy games ( 7 being my favorite) and I think that an ending where Noctis and his bros survive to rebuild Lucis could be a nice change. Just my opinion though.

  • xMysticx

i moved on long ago i even dont pay attention to ffxv articles anymore
you like provoking ffvs13 fans with your sarcastic remarks

  • Eyoi

They didn’t necessarily kill off everyone in the ending. They purposely left it open-ended for the player to interpret what happened, which to me is probably one of the worst ways to go about storytelling.

  • Eyoi

I like making fun of ignorant versus fans, yes.

  • xMysticx

you say im one of them ? :/

  • Codes McGodes

I agree. Though I’m hearing that in the game you can only access Gladio’s story by either agreeing to do it first, or by switching at a rest area. And if you play through Gladio’s, you can’t switch back until they’ve reunited, effectively skipping Noctis’ story. So the only way to get both is to play Noctis first, and switch to Gladio at a rest area RIGHT before they reunite

That’s what I’ve heard at least. Can’t verify if that’s true yet.

  • Eyoi

If you’re ignorant? Yes. If you know your shit and aren’t posting versus petitions and bashing everything about XV that comes out regardless of it’s quality because it isn’t what versus would’ve been? No.

You can have a strong stance against XV without bringing up a project that was started 10 years ago and abandoned long after without any progress.

  • xMysticx

let me just tell you im a fan of ffvs13 yet since tabata got his mouth open and admitted that he intended no story base and intended for the fans to see it through noctis is mind bogling enough .

hence washed my hands off ffxv ever since . regardless fans will hail tabata as savior no matter what .

its so clear he wants the money signs for his game
this idiot needs to get out the gaming industry

  • 2me

    WOFF on 8th gen? Sure.

15 on 8th gen? You think you have money to burn? Just watching theses type of adding is too painful. Jut re-release the original game on PC with GTX 1080.

  • Eyoi

I’m not a fan of Tabata’s games purely based on the way the stories have been told but you’d have to extremely ignorant or have no concept on what actually goes on during game development to be putting all of the blame onto Tabata without recognizing any of his feats. Yes, he’s said some stupid shit and dug himself into a whole but that doesn’t invalidate anything he did for the game. I’m sure if he wasn’t given a half-baked project with a limited time frame and an exhausted and unmotivated team, the game would’ve ended up a lot better than it is right now.

He’s great at managing a team and making sure they hit their milestones development-wise so the game gets out but he needs to leave the creativity to someone else. To say that he could get out of the gaming industry is just as stupid as statement as him saying the story was meant to be imbalanced and comprehensive.

I’m not a fan of Tabata’s games purely based on the way the stories have been told and I consider all of them average to say the least but you’d have to extremely ignorant or have no concept on what actually goes on during game development to be putting all of the blame onto Tabata without recognizing any of his feats. Yes, he’s said some stupid shit and dug himself into a whole but that doesn’t invalidate anything he did for the game. I’m sure if he wasn’t given a half-baked project with a limited time frame and an exhausted and unmotivated team, not to mention the amount of engine troubles the game had to begin with when they decided to develop luminous alongside the project, the game would’ve ended up a lot better than it is right now.

He’s great at managing a team and making sure they hit their milestones development-wise so the game gets out but he needs to leave the creativity to someone else. To say that he needs to get out of the gaming industry is just as stupid as statement as him saying the story was meant to be imbalanced and incomprehensive. There is a reason he’s still in the industry in one of the biggest gaming companies in the world and there is a reason why Square put him in charge of a mainline title.

Edit: Jesus, why the fuck is my comment repeatedly getting marked as spam.

  • xMysticx

im not an ignorant i know what happened in dev time hence i say he is not a savior either and not good in making games .
the guy just dont know how to dicrect main game
    thats it

  • Cho Tube

I have the same problem. Im able to play episode gladio, but thats it.

  • Prompto is adorable~ <3

I had this problem as well; turns out that I ‘just’ had to do some
really bizarre digging to actually find the download for some strange
reason. (^_^;) IIRC, here’s what I did to get there: Logged into the
    PlayStation Store on my PS4; went to my “Library” *within the store*;
selected the Final Fantasy XV square in said Library; on the consequent
page about FFXV, selected the three-tiny-little-dots button… and then honestly I don’t remember what I selected from there (^_^;) , but I think it was only one or two more ‘clicks’ until I got to a page that had Episode Gladio listed for $4.99 or whatever; and when I selected *THAT,* it brought up the (very-well-hidden 😛 ) Episode Gladio page on the PS Store, which– since I own the Season Pass– had a button that said “Download” (instead of “Buy”), which I selected, and then the darn thing *finally* downloaded, LOL! Once it was downloaded, I booted up the game, and *then* the “Downloadable Content” section finally worked, and the Episode was accessible. (Sorry I can’t be more specific about a couple of the steps, but I’m away from my machine right now… (^_^;) Hope it helps a little bit though! 🙂 …Seriously, though, why is it so complicated to just download the DLC, OTL…)

  • Cho Tube

I did the exact thing for episode gladiolus. Thing is, i still cant access ch 13 verse 2. My “special” on the title screen is still darkened compared to “new game, load game, option, etc.”

  • James Stine

Multiple comments were made, that’s likely why.

  • Eyoi

First comment got marked as spam when I tried to edit it so I tried to comment it again :C

  • Eyoi

He definitely knows how to direct a main game or the game would’ve never came out. If anything Nomura doesn’t know how to direct games and he’s stated this himself that he isn’t a good director and doesn’t enjoy it. Whether it’s to your liking is up to you. He was dealt a bad hand of cards and did his best with it.

  • xMysticx

to each his own i guess
and word of advice my friend dont go mocking on ffvs13 fans and expect someone to replay you nicely its only making it worse

  • Eyoi

If you take any offence to my original comment then you are indeed the type of person I was targeting. I wasn’t targeting every versus fan lmao. I was a fan of the concept of the game myself. People love to throw Tabata under the bus and praise Nomura as if he’s some sort of god when Nomura is the whole reason the game ended up how it is in the first place. Even if you look at games he has done such as Kingdom Hearts, even that series is a complete mess which spans across multiple platforms.

  • xMysticx

i wasnt offended i was amused at your cheap tricks to provoke a group
and your word of advice keep it for yourself cause i will never acknowledge a piece of garbage . shame nier automata got a mainstream title laugh of the century by getting high in meta score and that game is a niche game

  • Eyoi

Amused is a pretty funny way of saying you were offended. God bless you aren’t in game development.

  • xMysticx

i actually mean amused and its laughable to this day
episode gladio just proved it its garbage and who follow ffxv is a tool also
keep your hope up for it to disappointed
keep a good work by defending a tool such as your beloved tabata he needs someone to protect him from ”haters ” like me and others

he meant it when he said he meant it by not giving you guys enough content LOL i can wait see the rest of the play and how it will turn

  • Eyoi

I’m not sure why you would consider him my “beloved Tabata” when I literally stated that I’m not a fan of his games and consider all of them average. I have no hopes for the game as I’ve sold it and have no interest in any content they bring out for it as it’s already too far gone in my opinion. You’re just an incredibly unreasonable and incredibly uneducated when it comes to this topic. It’s ironic that you defend a director that failed to release “your beloved” game and then you blame the new director for ruining a game that never existed in the first place.

  • xMysticx

you state this and then revert to defending him so idk look at yourself

  • Eyoi

Have you read anything I’ve typed?

  • xMysticx

yes i did and i know you sold your games why are you giving him credit for assets he didnt create ?

  • Eyoi

You obviously haven’t because my whole point is that the game is objectively terrible but that isn’t entirely the fault of the current director. Not only can’t you put a solid argument against what I’m explaining to you but you can’t even comprehend what I’m saying.

  • xMysticx

idc if you call me ”uneducated” i have no hope for this trash to get out from its ass because its an ass . i will support any good none main stream titles like persona 5 and nier since main stream titles are an ass of an ass

please be my guest and defend even more its disgusts me to no end

  • Eyoi

Please tell me where the game would be in it’s current state if Nomura was still the director? Let’s assume he sorts all of the issues out but you give him the time frame that Tabata had. Would you still be saying Nomura doesn’t belong in the industry and he should never be a part of a Final Fantasy game again despite his efforts throughout the years for the franchise?

  • xMysticx

end of discussion will never click on ffxv after this cause to no end will blame nomura for toriyamas bitch ffxiii and team being away all the time and yes ffxiii also to blame

the one doesnt belong is tabata and toriyama
    / closed
    bye

  • Eyoi

And that is what happens when you get overwhelmed and can’t defend your point. LOL. Next time don’t try to have an argument when you have insufficient knowledge.

  • xMysticx

    LOLOLOLOLOLOL
all that because im overwhelmed ?
no im disgusted just talking to you and who defends a bitch like tabata and his crew

cant bring myself to respond anymore what tabata did to you all wash your brains ???

nomura shouldnt belong in the industry ? you fucking insane ????
    i cant take you seriously

  • Eyoi

You are, again, incapable of comprehending what I typed. I gave you a hypothetical situation that put Nomura in the same position as Tabata but you decided to avoid it.

So.. you’re saying Nomura shouldn’t be blamed because his team got dragged away to work on FXIII which is a factor completely out of Nomura’s control yet Tabata had issues that were completely out of his control including the remnants of Nomura’s game that he couldn’t finish nor start for that matter, and you’re saying Tabata should be burned at the stake for those outside factors. You’re literally contradicting yourself. I suggest you actually read my comments rather than think “omg tabata brainwashed everyone, Nomura is the best director in gaming history” because I don’t favor either of them as directors.

  • xMysticx

again im talking about tabata and his lies not nomura and you like to drag me in convos just to prove me wrong

tabata did good in 3 years ? so why episode gladio feels underwhelming just wait and see the rest take my word if its not the same

if i even get the chance to book a plane going to japan i will make sure to go to SE and throw rocks at their windows for the damn fuck over they gave the rest of the fans

    keep barking

  • Eyoi

I like to drag you into conversations to prove you wrong? Did you forget that you replied to me in the first place and you’re still replying after you said that you weren’t going to. You can stop your stupidity any time you want, I’m not stopping you.

I didn’t say Tabata created a masterpiece, in fact the game is quite forgettable but that isn’t entirely due to Tabata’s direction. That is due to multiple factors that hindered the game as I’ve already stated before and I’m sure there are more such as having to manage an demotivated and exhausted team that worked hard on a project only for it to be scrapped in the end, moving assets from PS3 to PS4 with an entirely brand new engine, etc.

The fact that you stated you’d go to Square Enix and throw rocks at the windows of a multi-million dollar company just shows your maturity and now I know exactly why you’re responding the way you are and the fact that you can’t actually have a proper discussion and view different perspectives except for your own without than throwing insults all over the place.
