Dissidia Final Fantasy NT shares basic game system, battle types and five characters

Square Enix has gone live with information and screenshots detailing Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. In particular, we’re treated with a breakdown of the game’s basic combat system, four battle types and even details on playable characters such as the Warrior of Light, Garland, Zidane, Kuja and Y’shtola.

What is Dissidia Final Fantasy NT?

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is a 3v3 party battle game where you can enjoy fast and action-based battles while controlling the many characters from the Final Fantasy series.

All characters, battle arenas and background are based from previous Final Fantasy titles and players will battle utilizing abilities and magic that takes advantage of each of the game’s features.

On top of character leveling and ability acquisition growth, players will also have the opportunity to customize each of the character’s costume and weapons.

Take control of characters from the Final Fantasy series and fight together in a party-based battle. When triggered, iconic summons will appear for a fixed amount of time and can change the tides of battle.

Characters

Warrior of Light (voiced by Toshihiko Seki)

  • Class: Vanguard
  • Type: Heavy

An all-rounder balanced in both offense and defense. He’s a fighter who has many techniques that are effective at mid-to-close ranges. A hero in Final Fantasy, he is the “Warrior of Light” chosen by the crystal. He embarks on a journey to restore the crystal’s light and save the world.

Garland (voiced by Koji Ishii)

  • Class: Vanguard
  • Type: Heavy

An armored warrior whose power multiplies by landing attacks. The antagonist in Final Fantasy, Garland was known as a famous knight in the kingdom of Cornelia, but abducted the princess and fled to the Chaos Shrine.

Zidane Tribal (voiced by Romi Park)

  • Class: Assassin
  • Type: Speed

A fighter that specializes in robbing stats and Bravery Points using the ability “Steal” while causing a disturbance on the battlefield. In Final Fantasy IX, Zidane is a member of the theatre troupe / band of thieves known as Tantalus. He and the rest of the group abducts Princess Garnet and, supporting her, gets tangled up in feuds between countries behind the scenes.

Kuja (voiced by Akira Ishida)

  • Class: Assassin
  • Type: Speed

A sorcerer with high movement speed that conquers his foes using deadly magic and specializes in close-range attacks. Also from Final Fantasy IX, Kuja is a young man of many mysteries who conjures a diversion during the Mist Continent War. His goal is to reign chaos throughout the continent.

Y’shtola (voiced by Ai Kayano)

  • Class: Marksman
  • Type: Shoot

A sharpshooter whose magic is almost fully equipped with weakening effects and one who specializes obstructing enemies with a flurry of attacks. Making her way from Final Fantasy XIV, Y’shtola is a woman of the Miqo’te who players meet in the region of La Noscea, where the breeze of the sea rustles. As well as utilizing advanced magic, she’s incredibly proficient in magic studies. She is shrouded in too many mysteries to be just a mere traveler.

Battle Types

Every character in the roster is assigned with a type that players should take into account when forming their own respective teams:

  • Heavy – slow movement speed, extensive attack range.
  • Speed – Low damage output, high movement speed and can perform triple jumps.
  • Shoot – Specialized in long-distance attacks. Caution becomes a necessity when enemies approach.
  • Unique – One with a unique set of special abilities, such as strengthening and growth.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is due out early 2018 worldwide for PlayStation 4.
