Square Enix localization specialist lists Final Fantasy Type-0 on resume
Final Fantasy Type-0's localization has been on the table since 2010 if an employee's resume is to be believed. Alongside his work for titles such as Crisis Core: FFVII, Nier, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, he has a listening for Final Fantasy Type-0 which has been in the works from "December 2010 to present." This jives with previous reports that localization had been worked on as recent as the beginning of last year. Previously, several voice actors…

Hajime Tabata: We did experiment with a Final Fantasy Type-0 HD version
High definition conversions aren't anything new in the current gaming landscape. Nearly every major company that flourished in the PS2 era has tried their hand at updating their games to better suit HD displays and other devices. Square Enix is getting there too, what with the recent release of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX (and eventually a 2.5) along with the announcement of Final Fantasy X HD. But what about their PSP titles? PSP remasters, while not as popular, have…

Final Fantasy Type-0 Ultimate Hits out now, download version also discounted
As of today the Ultimate Hits version of Final Fantasy Type-0 is available for sale in Japan. Of course, this means the download version has also dropped in price. Originally priced at ¥6,480, the PlayStation Network version of the game has dropped to a much more budget-friendly ¥2,100. Those who have the UMD version can also transfer the game to their PS Vita through Sony's UMD passport program for ¥500. While it's been a year since Type-0's domestic release, an…

Final Fantasy Type-0's English localization was nearly completed last year
Final Fantasy Type-0's English localization was nearly complete, if a source close to Operation Suzaku is to be believed. “According to our source, who recorded voice-over for one of the characters in the game, at least 90% of the English localization is complete. The dubbing sessions took place in the last quarter of 2011, just after the release (October 27th) of Final Fantasy Type-0 in Japan. The entirety of the English dub recording is said to be complete.” The source claims…

Brief update on Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Lightning Returns from Paris Games Week
While nothing substantial, a small update on both Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Lightning Returns has come out of Paris Games Week and its Final Fantasy celebration. FF Dream, who spoke with Square Enix World Technology Director Julien Merceron, was able to catch a few details on some of the company's upcoming projects. Regarding Lightning Returns, development is coming along swiftly, and they're currently showing the game to focus groups in order to narrow down what elements they should concentrate on…

Square Enix taking a "clean slate" approach in terms of plans for bringing Final Fantasy Type-0 to the west
Square Enix has yet to localize Final Fantasy Type-0 due to market reasons. That's quite obvious given the state of the PSP outside of Japan. One could argue the company waited too long to make any localization decision on the title, but Hajime Tabata has provided a few words instead that may encourage you. "Due to market reasons, we are taking a clean slate in terms of our plans. We feel strongly about bringing this title to the fans in North…

Operation Suzaku aims to bring Final Fantasy Type-0 westward
One year ago, Final Fantasy Type-0 saw its release in Japan; one year later, it still sees very little chance of leaving it. And Square Enix has done very little to ease the minds of fans who continue to wait for the title. To date, the company has failed to communicate about any potential western localization - something that hasn't been helped by the PSP's demise outside of Japan either. The fact is, even during development, Square Enix never made mention of…

The English version of Final Fantasy Type-0 remains in limbo
Final Fantasy Type-0 still isn't coming to the west anytime soon. That harsh reality was reenforced at Tokyo Game Show, where several sources in and outside of Square Enix confirmed the continued non-existence of the game's localization. According to 1UP's Jeremy Parish, "no less than four people I talked to at TGS made it very clear that the English version of Type-0 is moribund, at least in its current form." All of this despite various reports that have pointed toward some…

Final Fantasy Type-0 Bahamut prototype on display at New York Comic Con
Final Fantasy Type-0's rendition of Bahamut is on display at New York Comic Con this week. The classic Final Fantasy summon joins Kefka, Shiva (FFVIII), Alexander (FFVIII), and Bomb in Square Enix's latest Creatures Kai volume, which is set to launch in February 2013 for approximately $54.99. Bahamut marks the first time any sort of figure was designed for Final Fantasy Type-0, as the game did not get to enjoy any character Play Arts upon release. Final Fantasy Type-0 launched on…

Final Fantasy Type-0's Hajime Tabata wants to create a PlayStation Vita title
Crisis Core and 3rd Birthday creator Hajime Tabata has a lot to be proud of these days. Having produced a successful line of portable and mobile titles, the director was lucky enough to receive one of Sony's yearly PlayStation Awards for outstanding sales performance. Final Fantasy Type-0, which saw its release in Japan last year, was the focus of this achievement. SCE took the time to interview Tabata following his acceptance of the award, which included his thoughts on the PlayStation…

Discussion: Breaking Through - Let Square Enix know that Final Fantasy Type-0 needs to come to the west
I decided to focus on Final Fantasy Type-0 once again for this week's discussion. Why? Well, in case you missed it, Square Enix America finally acknowledged the game in the west somewhat by including the DLC track from the game in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy's upcoming DLC schedule. The difference between that and FF Versus XIII's Somnus, is that Type-0 has already seen a release in Japan. Meanwhile on the eve of Final Fantasy's 25th anniversary event, western fans still wait... It's…

Discussion: Reigniting the flame – Making the case for Final Fantasy Type-0's localization
It's been nearly a year since Final Fantasy Type-0 released in Japan. As of today, the game remains firmly grounded there, despite earlier dialogue from director Hajime Tabata, claiming a localization was in the works. That was in November of last year. So why hasn't Square Enix said anything? What exactly are they waiting for? Sure the game is on PSP - but that hasn't stopped other companies from continuing to release games on the platform, digital or otherwise. The…

Final Fantasy Type-0 Import Review
Head on over to RPGSite for my full review of Final Fantasy Type-0 and more, or read a text only version below. Six years ago Square Enix had a vision of a common platform from which to build a series of games under a single banner. That compilation became known as Fabula Nova Crystallis and was comprised of three titles at conception: Final Fantasy XIII, which has since been released, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. While the…

Have a look at these Final Fantasy Type-0 gameplay videos
We're closing in on the year anniversary since Final Fantasy Type-0 was released in Japan, and there's not a western version in sight. This is a huge problem. Final Fantasy Type-0 is an extraordinary entry to the series - which you'll see in my import review that's to be posted soon. I figured it might be appropriate to show off a few sections of gameplay taken from different areas in the game as both fans and Square Enix alike would…

3.0 is Coming
Things will be changing here in the near future. Fabula Nova Crystallis isn't going to last forever, and as such I'll be expanding the site to cover all of Square Enix's 1st Production Department. What this means is that I will start covering games such as Kingdom Hearts 3D, FFX HD, Final Fantasy Brigade, and more. Along with an expansion in content, the entire site will be undergoing a layout change as well. This way I'll be able to provide…

Yoshinori Kitase Talks Fabula Nova Crystallis
FINAL FANTASY Type-0 may be out in Japan, but a western release is still largely unknown. UPDATE: The website in question has removed the Type-0 portion of their story. According to an interview over at Vandal.net, that might be about to change. Yoshinori Kitase, a producer on the game, has possibly (if there hasn't been anything lost in translation) revealed that localization on Type-0 is underway for North America and Europe. He says that details will be shared on that soon. Regarding FINAL…
