Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster sales reach 260K in the U.S. By Erren Van Duine on April 18, 2014 at 1:18 PM

Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster has done quite well for itself since going on sale this past March. According to the NPD Group – the company that tracks game sales data on a monthly basis – the combined sales on both PlayStation 3 and PS Vita hit over 260K units in two weeks.

While slightly under the game’s Japanese debut, FFX|X-2 HD did manage to top the debut sales of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX – which ended up selling 132K at launch. Despite its age and stiff competition last month. Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster is also the best selling Final Fantasy title of the year so far. Hopefully its success has convinced Square Enix that Final Fantasy XII should be next on their plate – fan demand is certainly there for it.

Wonderful to see the fans vote with their wallets. Sold more than Lightning Returns in a shorter amount of time and it’s a remaster!

    Now, Comes The Next Logical Step;
Finaru Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System – HD Remaster?

    Square-Enix executives, “Uhh… Nope.”

  • Ryuukishi

Seems like excellent sales for an HD Remaster. I am dying for a new remaster of FF12!

  • Somber

Final Fantasy XII Remaster PLEASE. >.<

  • Somber

Just don’t mention LR more. Two famous and most beloved games remastered in one bundle with a nice price will do better than a rather new game suffered poor luck.

  • FinalFantisiac

I certainly DEMAND that XII be remastered.

    Or else… :O

  • Leo Lima

Final Fantasy XII Remaster PLEASE. >.< [2]

  • MrFinalgamer

Hmm…this is weird, because David Gibson said that it sold 208K, not 260K…Are you sure your source is right Erren???

    Combined PS3 and Vita sales. 208k PS3, 52k Vita.

  • surakian

Yes, but remasters historically don’t do as well as new releases. I used LRFF for my comparison because it is the only other Final Fantasy game that has come out this year.

  • MrFinalgamer

Ah, thanks for that. Hmm, the Vita version sold quite badly =/
Hopefully it has some long legs, or the sales were enough to justify more development from Square Enix to the Vita

  • Storm

give me FFXII HD with online elements like demon/dark souls and we’re done.

  • Wazi the pa

Lightning Returns was a genuinely bad game for many reasons and I am glad that FFX/X-2 HD has received so many sales, it deserves it.

  • Wazi the pa

I really hope in 5 to 10 years from now, they remade Final Fantasy XIII with Toriyama as the supervisor and someone else as the director.

  • Aoi Tsuki

    12 remaster now please πŸ˜€

  • Nokuto

Maybe they will have 4K remasters in the future (the distant, distant future when games can support 4K)? Imagine Kingdom Hearts 3.5 UHD ReMIX for PlayStation 6 and Xbox Three.

  • Sophia

Wonderful news! I knew it was going to be a success!
And they’ll see that the old school never dies!!
    And now 12 remaster!
    LONG LIVE X AND X-2!

  • If I want my eyes to bleed, sure…

It’s not entirely a logical choice, despite being appealing from a fan’s standpoint.

FFX was fairly easy for them to re-master. FFXII had large cities and was much bigger in scale and that would be fairly hard to convert I would imagine. FFXII also sold under six million copies and arguably not as favoured as X was. FFX only sold eight right enough but there would still be the inevitable mediocre sales to consider. Would it be profitable?

It’s not worth the risk. They’re better focusing on new games, both for my sake and for their sake.

  • Samsara09

They can remake XII,that is fine…but be careful…without backwards compatibility, each ten years they release a XII remake, you will have to buy it to keep playing XII,since the PS3 will soon get obsolete. All consoles eventually get obsolete, and so do the games they play. That is why I find the remaster logic somewhat repulsive.

Also,SE should be doing new games, investing in creativity…but lol, they are releasing remasters, thinking it can buy them time.

  • Caliburn

Just remake it and release it on PC πŸ™‚ I know that wont happen :/ but a man can still hope right?

  • Caliburn

Nah, I think the Vita did OK, I don’t think people expect the Vita version to sell very well to begin. Although it is a shame since it is a great console.

  • Jeffrey Kuhl

PS3 isn’t even close to being obsolete yet. Not to mention, eventually everything will be downloadable to the PS4. Right now there’s nothing to play on the PS4 and that’s why many people are waiting to buy. I’m personally waiting for UC4 before I buy, but I’ll still keep my PS3.

  • Daniel Masterson

uh not really unless you sell all your consoles and don’t take care for your stuff. I have a perfectly working PS2 and my original CE of FF XII that works just fine.

  • sixstarny

I’ll buy XII HD on the 3 and the Vita just like I did with X-X2…

  • Chad

FFX & FF7 are my favorites… I just like how you can customize weapons, armor and the sphere grid is kind of cool… I like it a lot better than how FF13 is set up. The turn based attack system is fine with me, although I know FF is heading into a more action type of game similar to Kingdom Hearts for broader appeal. But as long as you can still increase stats of characters, customize weapons and armor, etc I don’t mind giving up turn based attacks.

  • Chad

I probably won’t buy a PS4 until Kingdom Hearts 3 or Final Fantasy 15 comes out. The other games just don’t interest me that much.

  • Corrina

I wish they’d remake 7 or 9. I started out on 7 and was hooked on FF ever since (do not like the new ones;13 and beyond are not for me). I have now played everything from 1-13. My love for RPGs thanks to FF lead to my discovery of Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, Chrono, and others like them. I would love for SE to come out with more old-school type turn-based/ATB games. The gaming world has moved on but hopefully the old stuff will come back onto the scene. Not to say I don’t try anything new; I LOVE Elder Scrolls and can’t wait for more.

  • Corrina

Those are my favorites as well but I am not enjoying the new direction of FF. I can only make it halfway through 13 because of the battle system, and it feels too linear so I get bored quickly. I’ve tried playing it twice now. I like the strategy involved in the old battle systems and getting to try out new skills and weapons. With 13 it felt like I didn’t really get to enjoy any of the new skills because the optimum way to play was using paradigms and so everything is pretty much automatic. If you do it manually it just feels rushed. I suppose I could have spent more time trying to get comfortable with it but I tired of the game too quickly.

  • Krijn van Alten

Try Bravery Default. Thy say that’s a really old school JRPG.

  • Lucius

Yes, I think FF13 was created during a transition period between turn based and action based in the series… so no, FF13 is not fun… it’s like it’s not sure what it wants to be.

But FF15 likely will be very enjoyable to play as it will be action based fighting fully realized like Devil May Cry or Kingdom Hearts mixed with RPG level customizations and such.

But FF Realm Reborn is very similar to World of Warcraft if you want a more old school type of mmorpg gaming experience. No, it’s not the same as older FF games, but I played FF14 a long time ago and it looks like a very promising game.

  • Corrina

    I’ll look into it!

  • Corrina

You make a good argument. Part of me wants to keep buying new FF games…at least give them a try. The other part of me wonders if they’ll be a total disappointment like 13. If they commit to one battle style or another, it will be a significant improvement, that’s for sure. Maybe I’ll check 14 out.

  • Krijn van Alten

XIV is definitely worth a try. I am a single player myself, so in the beginning I hesitated a bit, if a MMO was a good idea for my. But itΒ΄s really fine, you can play a large part of the time completely on your own.

  • Corrina

That’s why I’ve always stuck with Playstation rather than moving to PC gaming but it seems that even PS has moved on to change with the times. Really, only FF11 and the ancient and mostly extinct MUD games are the extent of my MMO gaming experience. The FF crowd is a pleasant one though. I never once had my mother insulted on FF11. πŸ™‚

  • Krijn van Alten

I really had zero MMO experience when I started XIV, but it is relatively easy and there is a lot of explanation in the beginning (sometimes maybe even a bit to much).
